OUR STAFF
Melissa Downing
Office Manager
Melissa has been married to Tom for 19 years. Together they have four children and two grandchildren. Living in Susanville for the past 22 years, Melissa understands the limited resources and the partnerships needed in Lassen County to build relationships and change culture. Ephesians 4:16 . . . “He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is growing and full of love.” Melissa’s motto is “Together we can make a difference!” Melissa has been involved in various ministries including Women’s and Children’s Ministries. She is excited to have the opportunity to serve the Lord at Community Church.
Gwen Floyd
Ministry Assistant
Gwen joined the staff of Community Church in January of 2009. She is passionate about Jesus and what He is doing within our church. One of her favorite things about her job is that she produces a weekly prayer list, from our church body and online, faithfully used by the church prayer team and many others in the church, resulting in multiple prayers prayed for each and every request. Equally as important to her is the joy of helping her husband, Pastor Floyd, with the multitude of tasks that come across his desk.
Rick and Gwen have been blessed with two boys; Trevor and Bryan. Their oldest, Trevor, has a beautiful wife, Anna, and two children, Caleb and Cora, whom God blessed him and Anna with before calling him home. Their 2nd son, Bryan, is married to his amazing wife, Kendra, and they have two children, Nora and Zephyr. In the loss of Trevor, time with family has become especially precious to the Floyd family and they are very intentional about celebrating it as the gift God intended it to be.
Rick Floyd
Executive Pastor
Rick has been serving Community Church since September of 2008. He loves working with and leading the ministry staff. Rick also loves working alongside and supporting the vision and leadership of the Lead Pastor. Rick was born and raised in Santa Cruz, California and, except for eight short months, has spent his entire life residing in the Golden State. Rick has been in ministry since 1980, and was ordained in 1993 at First Baptist Church of Santa Cruz. Rick has been married to Gwen since 1981, and they have two sons, Trevor and Bryan, two daughter in laws, Anna and Kendra, and four grandkids, Caleb, Nora, Cora and Zephyr. Their son, Trevor, died of heart disease and went home to be with the Lord on September 4, 2017. His wife Anna lives in Alabama with Caleb and Cora. Bryan is a store manager for Kohls, and lives with his wife Kendra, Nora and Zephyr in Chico. Rick loves traveling with Gwen (especially to see the grandkids), the San Francisco Giants, playing disc golf with Bryan, and the village of Khanaberia.
Shelbi McCartney
Bookkeeper
Shelbi joined the staff of Community Church in March of 2010. Her first position was setting up for the Celebrate Recovery ministry, after which she served as a custodian until becoming the bookkeeper May of 2010. One of the things she is most passionate about in her position is the monthly checks she writes to the missionaries around the world who are supported by Community Church. She says: “Every month when I print the checks out, I stop and pray over every single check, for God’s blessing on each missionary and their families. The reason this is so important to me is that I was saved on a mission trip to Mexico when I was a teenager.”
Shelbi has been married 11 years to her husband Dace. They have five children: Courtnie, Alex and Joey (twins), Payton, and Brianna. They also have one grandson, Grayson. In her spare time, she loves to spend time in her garden.
Jason Pavia
Custodian
Jason has been the custodian at Community Church since December of 2019. He enjoys serving the church behind the scenes, and says what he likes best about the job is “direct access to the ministry staff, and no micromanagement.” His son Jason Jr. keeps him busy during the week, and some of his favorite things in life are family, wildlife and the outdoors, and food.
Brian Robbins
Lead Pastor
Brian joined Community Church in May of 2020 after 14 years of pastoring a church on the Oregon coast. He spent his junior high and high school years in Susanville, and is excited to return to his hometown and serve the community he grew up in alongside his brother Randy. Brian loves to teach God’s Word and is passionate about leading a church that looks more and more like Jesus. He also loves to be outdoors, and enjoys running, hiking, and kayaking. Brian and his wife Carey were married in 2000 and have three children: Bailey, Claire, and Caleb.
Randy Robbins
Worship Pastor
Randy's involvement with worship at Community Church began in 2003 as the volunteer leader of the "Youth Band." He has since served as a deacon, an elder, and (beginning in 2011) as a staff member. Randy oversees Community Church's worship ministry and all of the technology and equipment that makes Sunday mornings happen. He finds great joy in the musical aspect of worship, and is blessed to be surrounded by a talented team of volunteer musicians and sound techs that make worship through song at Community Church a special experience. In his free time, he enjoys all things outdoors. His hobbies include mountain biking, fishing, and especially nature and wildlife photography. His photos can be seen at randyrobbinsphotography.com. Randy married his wife Jill in 1999 and they have 4 children (three daughters and a son).
Joey Whipple
Director of Senior High Ministry
Joey joined the staff of Community Church in September of 2020. Joey loves that his job gives him the opportunity to pour into the lives of young people, and that he gets to study God’s word and share it with the students. In his free time, Joey enjoys reading and learning new things. He also enjoys hunting and fishing. He is currently engaged to his lovely fiancé, Kayla. They plan to marry on May 1st, 2021.
